As a little boy, I was a huge fan of Raiders of the Lost Ark, Goonies, Star Wars, and many other films that entailed a sense of danger and adventure. I would love to watch people escape from tough situations and then find themselves in another. As you can imagine, I was hanging on the edge of my seat with my bag of Peanut M&Ms in every scene!
Fast forward to many years later as a grown man, I still love adventure. But now I find myself living the adventure with God. My prayer life depends on my adventure with God. What I pray for is what I live out. There is a dangerous and adventurous prayer that you and I can pray. It flows from the heart of David. In a world full of danger, ermines, and tough situations, we find David uttering a very dangerous prayer. This prayer can be prayed in your life right now!
“Judge me, O LORD; for I have walked in mine integrity: I have trusted also in the LORD; therefore I shall not slide. Examine me, O LORD, and prove me; try my reins and my heart. For thy lovingkindness is before mine eyes: and I have walked in thy truth.” Psalm 26:1-3
In a word full of deceit, David prays, “Judge me!” Why? Because he has kept his integrity (Internal). Integrity is keeping God-given morals to the highest degree. If we do this, then it shows out in our character (External). Remember, your inside must match your outside to be the real deal.
He says, Lord, you examine me, get into my life personally and prove me to be who I say that I am. However, David doesn’t stop there! Try me, meaning put me in tough situations and press me so that I can really make sure that I am who I say that I am under pressure. Many times, we break under pressure. Pressure is what shows you who you really are because out of tough situation comes the heart, which holds integrity, morals and character-in other words, the real you.
David then finishes within these verses with his passion for God. He says it is you and me, God. You can do what you want, but I am going to stick with you through thick and thin because your holy love is ever before me, because I am walking in your truth.
Can you pray this prayer? Will you walk in God’s truth? Go ahead and live dangerously with God!
